Azamati, Saminu out as Joe Paul leads new look Team Ghana for World Relays in China

Ghana’s 100m record holder, Benjamin Azamati, will not compete in the World Relays.

He was initially named to the team but has opted out. Timing constraints influenced his decision.

Team captain Joseph Paul Amoah will lead a new team. The squad includes Ibrahim Fuseni and Barnabas Aggerh, who competed last year.

Sean Safo-Antwi returns after missing the Paris Olympics due to injury. Mustapha Bokpin is also part of the team.

Abdul Rasheed Saminu and Isaac Botsio were not selected because of school commitments.

Ghana has performed well at recent Relay Championships. Last year, Azamati, Amoah, Botsio, and Fuseni secured a spot for the Paris Games in the Bahamas.

The 2025 World Relays will help qualify teams for the World Championships later this year. The event will take place from May 10-11 in Guangzhou, China.
