Zambia Women’s National team captain, Barbra Banda, made history by becoming the first Zambian to win the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award.
She triumphed over Morocco's Sana Mssoudy and Nigeria's Chiamaka Nnadozie at a prestigious ceremony in Marrakech. Banda was also named to the CAF/FIFPRO Africa XI 2024, joining South Africans Noko Matlou and Thembi Kgatlana as Southern African players to win the honor.
The award, covering January to October 2024, highlighted her remarkable achievements, including her recent BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year title and inclusion in the FIFPRO Women’s World 11.
Banda also made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, scoring three hat-tricks, and excelled in her debut season with Orlando Pride, earning MVP honors.
