Barcelona on the verge of tying up deal for 16-year-old Portuguese talent

Barcelona's Sporting Director, Deco, recently hosted 16-year-old Portuguese winger Cardoso Varela at the Ciutat Esportiva, meeting with the player and his agents to discuss a potential deal.

Varela, currently a free agent, has previously been highly sought after, earning 22 caps for Portugal's U-17 team.

His move from Porto to Croatian side Dinamo Odranski Obrez was blocked by FIFA, leaving him without a club.

Interest from Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid has been reported. Varela's agent, Andy Bara, also represents Dani Olmo and Mikayil Faye, and the player was once expected to move to the Bundesliga. Barcelona is reportedly close to securing the young talent.
