Barcelona playing for €27m in prize money over next 9 days

Barcelona, despite struggles in La Liga, are in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16, sitting second after six games.

With two matches remaining, Barcelona's accountants are eager for them to secure qualification against Benfica and Atalanta, with €27 million at stake. Finishing top of their group offers a €10 million prize, though they need Liverpool to slip up.

Prize money decreases with lower finishes, but qualifying for the Round of 16 guarantees an €11 million bonus, with a further €2 million for reaching the top eight.

Beating Benfica and Atalanta would earn an additional €4.2 million in matchday bonuses. So far, Barcelona has earned €29.12 million, including entry fees and match victories, with a potential €52.5 million for winning the competition.
