Barcelona secured a convincing 4-1 win over Sevilla, but the match was marred by a red card for Fermin Lopez, upgraded via VAR after he was initially substituted in to prevent Gavi from being sent off.
Manager Hansi Flick called it a learning experience for Lopez, while Pedri criticized the inconsistent officiating, citing a similar unpunished foul by Valencia’s Hugo Guillamon.
Gavi, who was booked, acknowledged feeling unfairly targeted by referees and agreed with Flick’s decision to substitute him at halftime.
The controversy comes amid Real Madrid’s complaint to the Spanish FA about alleged officiating bias.
Despite the incident, Barcelona's victory helped them close the gap in La Liga's title race, where they sit third with 48 points, just two behind leaders Real Madrid.
