South African football legend Benni McCarthy, South Africa's all-time top scorer and UEFA Champions League winner with Porto, is set to become the new head coach of Kenya's national football team, the Harambee Stars.
The 46-year-old will replace Engin Firat after an interim period under Francis Kimanzi. McCarthy's appointment is expected to be finalized before January 10, with an official unveiling ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
McCarthy, who has coached at Manchester United and AmaZulu, will bring one assistant, while Kenya will provide another to complete his technical team. His extensive experience is hoped to enhance Kenya's performance in upcoming international competitions.
