Black Queens: Friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia at risk over unavailability of funds

The Black Queens' international friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia are in jeopardy due to a lack of funding.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) have not secured the $40,000 budget required for the matches, initially scheduled for November to prepare for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

This financial setback has delayed the approval needed to organize the games. The Black Queens, who last played in July against Japan, aimed to use these matches as a critical evaluation opportunity under head coach Nora Häuptle.

Having secured their spot in WAFCON 2024, Ghana faces a challenging group stage against defending champions South Africa, Tanzania, and Mali. This marks their first WAFCON appearance since 2018.
