Black Satellites fail in World Cup qualification bid after losing on penlaties to Egypt

Ghana's U-20 team, the Black Satellites, failed to qualify for the World Cup. They lost to Egypt on May 12. The match ended in a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes. Ghana lost 5-4 in penalties.

Egypt started strong, scoring two goals in eight minutes. Momen Sherif capitalized on a defensive error by Ofori McCarthy and goalkeeper Gidious Aseako.

After falling behind, Ghana settled down and found their rhythm. They scored just before halftime when Egypt’s goalkeeper mishandled Abdul Aziz Isaiah’s long shot. This made the score 2-1.

Ghana entered the second half needing to equalize. They nearly scored when Denis Marfo's header went over the crossbar.

The second half was dominated by Ghana, but they couldn't convert their chances. Just when it seemed hopeless, Hakim Sulemana kept Ghana alive with a penalty goal after Joseph Opoku was fouled.

This tied the game and sent it into extra time. However, Ghana faced a setback when Aaron Essel received a red card for a last-man tackle.

In the penalty shootout, Dacosta Antwi missed his attempt while Egypt scored all their kicks. As a result, Ghana exited the tournament while Egypt advanced to the semifinals and secured a World Cup spot.
