Black Stars captaincy was poorly handled - Former GFA veep, Fred Pappoe

Fred Pappoe Fred Pappoe

Fred Pappoe, former vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), criticized the decision to appoint Mohammed Kudus as captain of the Black Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Although Jordan Ayew is the most experienced player, Otto Addo chose Kudus to lead the team during qualifiers against Sudan after Thomas Partey’s absence.

The Black Stars drew 0-0 in the first leg but lost 2-0 in the return match. Pappoe called the captaincy decision premature and poorly handled, arguing that Kudus was not the right choice at that time.

Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, finishing last in Group F with just three points, marked their first absence from the tournament in two decades.
