Former African Footballer of the Year Ibrahim Sunday attributes Ghana's recent football struggles to a lack of strategic planning during the Black Stars' golden years.
Ghana's historic World Cup debut in 2006 and subsequent appearances in 2010 and 2014, along with a near-victory in the 2010 AFCON final against Egypt, brought global acclaim. However, Sunday believes the absence of a plan to nurture replacements for retiring stars has led to the team’s current challenges.
Speaking to Peace FM, Sunday remarked, "When the team was doing well, we didn’t prepare for the future, and now it’s hard for us."
He emphasized the need for structured football development to sustain Ghana’s legacy beyond individual generations, urging long-term investment in talent identification and development.
