Sports Minister Kofi Adams has addressed the boxing enquiry committee. He expressed confidence that their commitment will not be wasted.
This statement came after he received the committee's report. The committee was formed in April to investigate the death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju. Olanrewaju died during a boxing match on March 29 this year.
The seven-member committee, led by Major Retired Amarkai Amarteifio, presented their findings to the Minister. In a brief media interaction, Kofi Adams praised their dedication. He said, “I’m impressed with your commitment; it will not go in vain.”
He thanked them on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama for submitting the report promptly. The Ministry will study the report and implement its recommendations.
Gabriel Olanrewaju collapsed during his bout and later died at Korle-Bu Hospital. He was 40 years old at the time of his passing.
Olanrewaju was a former National and West African light-heavyweight champion. He tragically collapsed while fighting Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Bukom Boxing Arena on March 29, 2025.
