Sports Minister Kofi Adams has assured Ghanaians that the budget for the Black Stars’ two upcoming World Cup qualifiers will be made public but maintained that managing the national team is costly due to the number of foreign-based players.
Addressing concerns about transparency, Adams explained that while some had called for the budget to be disclosed before the games, he believed such a move could be a distraction.
“The budget for the team will be made available. There is nothing to hide from the public, but we must understand that it is expensive to take care of the national team because most of the players are coming from Europe,” he stated.
He further justified the delay in disclosure, emphasizing the need to prioritize the team’s focus.
“People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself what the budget will do for the team ahead of the games. Sometimes, some situations create distractions for the team, so we should weigh every situation before making a decision,” Adams told Accra-based Asempa FM.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions about government spending on the Black Stars and calls for greater financial accountability in Ghanaian football.
