CAF Awards: Ademola Lookman wins 2024 African Player of the Year

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman was named the 2024 African Player of the Year at the CAF Awards in Marrakech, Morocco.

Lookman had an outstanding year, excelling with Atalanta in Serie A and helping Nigeria qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was pivotal in his club’s success, scoring key goals in the UEFA Europa League, including a historic hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, and maintaining strong domestic form.

Lookman narrowly defeated Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and other top contenders, solidifying his position as one of Africa's brightest talents. His 14th-place finish in the 2024 Ballon d'Or ranking further highlighted his rise in global football.
