CAF launches new look Champions League trophy ahead of first leg of final

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the new CAF Champions League trophy. This event took place with partners TotalEnergies in Johannesburg, South Africa. It marks a significant moment for Africa’s top club competition.

The unveiling was attended by football legends like Lucas Radebe, Teko Modise, and Siphiwe Tshabalala. Several leaders from African football were also present.

Mamelodi Sundowns or Pyramids will make history by lifting the new trophy. The design is not just a replacement; it shows CAF's commitment to modernization and innovation.

This redesign aims to enhance the visual impact of Africa's most prestigious prize. It is part of CAF’s strategy to rebrand and elevate its competitions.

CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba stated that they are focusing on interclub competitions. He emphasized that this reveal reflects their goals for African club football. They aim to raise the stature of these competitions globally and inspire future talent.

Thursday’s unveiling builds excitement for the upcoming 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final. The first leg will be held between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC in Pretoria on Saturday.

The return leg will take place on June 1 in Cairo. The new trophy features sleek silver and gold lines, symbolizing unity and rivalry in African football.

At its peak, the golden sphere represents victory and embodies African symbolism. The contrasting elements celebrate both champions' triumphs and worthy opponents' honor.
