Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has named the late Christian Atsu as the best player he has ever played alongside in his career.
Atsu, who won the Best Player award at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), tragically passed away in 2023 after being found under rubble following an earthquake in Turkey.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Ayew said, “The best player I've ever played with, unfortunately, is no longer with us, and that's Christian [Atsu]. I played with Muntari, Essien, Asamoah [Gyan], and Andre [Ayew], but Atsu was special. He didn’t get enough plaudits for how good he was.”
Ayew recently led Ghana to two consecutive wins in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers, securing a 5-0 victory over Chad and a 3-0 win against Madagascar. The Black Stars currently top Group I with 15 points.
