Former Ghana international Augustine Ahinful has criticized the poor safety measures at Ghana Premier League venues, blaming the weak oversight of the Club Licensing Board.
His concerns follow the tragic stabbing of an Asante Kotoko fan during a match against Nsoatreman FC on February 3, 2025.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Ahinful questioned why unsafe stadiums are approved, emphasizing that families should not have to risk their lives to attend games.
He lamented the poor state of domestic football, stating that incidents like this push fans towards foreign leagues.
In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home stadium and paused the league while investigations continue. Club owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah and two others have been arrested in connection with the violence.
