Sheikh Tophic Sienu is a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Team. He believes Ghana's goal in the Unity Cup is team building. This group includes many new players.
He shared his thoughts in an interview with Citi Sports. They discussed the quality of teams in the Unity Cup, beyond just Nigeria.
The tournament takes place at the G-Tech Community Stadium in England. It features four nations: Ghana, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica.
Several key players missed the tournament, including Thomas Partey and Inaki Williams. Ghana lost 2-1 to Nigeria and will face Trinidad and Tobago next for third place.
Tophic Sienu emphasized the strength of Caribbean teams. He noted that recent surprises show any team can challenge Ghana’s dominance.
“Until recently, who knew Niger and Sudan could deny us AFCON qualification?” he asked. “Countries like Comoros have also troubled us.”
He stressed that playing these games helps build team chemistry. The focus should be on getting to know each other better.
Sienu mentioned that qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is crucial now. This follows Ghana's failure to qualify for AFCON for the first time in 20 years.
