Covenant Stars win fifth edition of Tariq Lamptey Foundation U-16 Tournament

Covenant Stars won the fifth Tariq Lamptey Foundation U-16 football tournament. They defeated Take Hearts in the final at Prisons Astroturf, Roman Ridge.

As champions, Covenant Stars received 6,000 GHS, a trophy, footballs, boots, and drinks. Take Hearts, the runners-up, got 4,000 GHS and other prizes.

Sporting Club finished third and received 2,000 GHS for participation. The fourth-placed team also received 2,000 GHS.

The tournament was organized by Tariq Lamptey to nurture young talent. Four U-16 teams participated: Covenant Stars, Take Hearts, Sporting Club, and Young Wise.

Beneficiaries praised the tournament's impact on young athletes' development. Paul Dofoe Danlawyer is the head coach of Sporting Club. He thanked Lamptey for helping discover new talents.

“This platform helps young players embrace football globally,” he said. Daniel Ansah is the head coach of Covenant Stars. He encouraged others to follow Lamptey's example.

“He’s doing well,” Ansah stated. “Few big stars think about underprivileged players.”

Susan Akomeah is a member of the Tariq Lamptey Foundation and his grandmother. She urged successful Ghanaian players to support young talents.

“This tournament motivates young players,” she said. “It makes Tariq happy to see them give their best.”

The Tariq Lamptey Foundation aims to expand its reach and nurture Ghana’s finest young footballers.
