Damian Lillard to have surgery for torn Achilles tendon; 2025-2026 season in serious doubt

Damian Lillard Injured

Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has a torn left Achilles tendon. The team announced he will undergo surgery on Monday.

An MRI showed the injury's severity. This injury ends Lillard's season and jeopardizes his 2025-26 season due to recovery time.

Lillard got hurt during Sunday night’s Game 4 loss to the Indiana Pacers. He was trying to keep an offensive rebound alive when he fell without contact.

He needed help off the floor and could not put weight on his left leg. After the game, he left in a walking boot and on crutches. Coach Doc Rivers said Lillard's status was "not promising."

On Monday, Lillard acknowledged his injury on social media. He thanked fans for their prayers and well wishes. His message read, “This one really hurt… HIS way not MY way. To Be Continued.”

In his second season with Milwaukee, Lillard played 58 games and felt more comfortable. He averaged 24.9 points and 7.1 assists while shooting 45% overall (38% from three).

Lillard will turn 35 in July and is owed $113 million over the next two seasons. This includes a guaranteed year in 2025-26 and a player option for 2026-27.

Since joining the Bucks from Portland, he has averaged 24.6 points per game.
