Dani Alves, the former Barcelona and Sevilla defender, is currently out on bail as he awaits the result of his appeal against a rape conviction handed down in February 2024.
Alves was granted provisional freedom after posting €1m bail and surrendering his passport, despite initially claiming he lacked the financial means to do so. However, his last club, Pumas in Mexico, is now seeking a financial penalty.
After Alves was involved in the incident that led to his conviction, Pumas rescinded his contract, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that the club is pursuing legal action for non-compliance with the contract’s code of conduct.
The club could potentially sue Alves for up to €6m. Despite maintaining his innocence, Alves is facing mounting legal and financial challenges as the appeal process continues.
