The African Boxing Union (ABU) has appointed David Ikpabi as Chairman of the West African Boxing Union (WABU).
This announcement was made in a press release on April 14, 2025.
Ikpabi's appointment follows the expulsion of Remi Aboderin. Aboderin, the former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, faced allegations of corruption and misconduct.
In response to these issues, WABU suspended all activities involving Aboderin. They also moved to reconstitute their leadership.
Ikpabi will lead the new ABU Western Region Title Committee. He will be supported by Jean Paul Dago from Côte d’Ivoire, Dr Kpakpo Adote from Togo, and Patrick Johnson from Ghana.
Despite serious accusations against Aboderin, President Ikpabi denies any wrongdoing. He claims there are efforts to destabilize the union.
