Diallo's rise from Rangers flop to Man Utd saviour

Amad Diallo Amad Diallo

Amad Diallo’s brief but memorable loan spell at Rangers in January 2022 marked a tough learning curve for the young Ivorian forward. Arriving with high expectations following his £19m move to Manchester United, Diallo’s early days at Rangers were promising, including a goal on his debut against Ross County.

His speed, skill, and two-footedness were immediately apparent in training, with teammates likening him to James Maddison for his style of play.

However, life at Rangers proved challenging for Diallo. His performance in a 3-0 defeat to Celtic saw him heavily criticized by pundits, which impacted his confidence. Limited to only 13 appearances during his time in Glasgow, he faced increasing pressure and even racist abuse.

Despite this, he impressed with his resilience, showcasing a strong mentality in training and playing through difficult moments, including an unused substitute role during Rangers’ run to the Europa League final.

Diallo's time at Rangers ultimately helped shape him, and after returning to Manchester United, he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sunderland, where he scored 14 goals.

His experience in Scotland, though harsh, contributed to his growth as a player, and his recent form for United has proven that he has learned from those difficult times.
