Novak Djokovic revealed that he still experiences "trauma" when visiting Melbourne, three years after being deported due to Australia's Covid-19 regulations.
In 2022, Djokovic's visa was canceled over his unvaccinated status, and he was detained at an immigration hotel before being forced to leave, missing the Australian Open. Though he returned the following year and won his 10th Australian Open title, he admitted feeling uneasy when passing through immigration in subsequent visits. Despite this, Djokovic holds no grudge and has continued to compete.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese commented on the broader Covid context, with Albanese criticizing the previous government's handling of Djokovic’s case. Djokovic aims for a record 25th Grand Slam at this year's Australian Open.
