Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will be out for up to seven weeks. He suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth. Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the news after the match.
Haaland was substituted in the 61st minute after scoring an equaliser. City went on to win the game 2-1, reaching the semi-finals.
A video showed Haaland leaving the stadium on crutches. His left ankle was in a protective boot. Guardiola said, “They told me the doctors say between five to seven weeks.” He hopes Haaland will be ready by the end of the season and for the Club World Cup.
City announced that Haaland would see a specialist about his injury. They expect he will play again this season, including in this summer's FIFA Club World Cup.
On Sunday, Haaland missed a penalty and two big chances. However, he scored from Nico O'Reilly’s cross before Omar Marmoush netted the winner. The FA Cup is City's only chance for silverware this season after struggles in other competitions.
Guardiola has faced injuries to key players throughout this campaign. Currently, City sits fifth in the Premier League, one point behind Chelsea for a Champions League spot.
**What games will Erling Haaland miss?**
If he misses five weeks, Haaland will sit out six matches. This includes the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 26. He could return for a Premier League match against Southampton on May 10.
If it takes seven weeks to recover, he may miss the FA Cup final on May 17 if City beats Forest. He would aim to be fit for the final league game of the season on May 25 at Fulham before participating in the Club World Cup in June and July.
City's Premier League match against Aston Villa has been postponed due to their FA Cup involvement and has not yet been rescheduled.
