EPL on Citi: Ipswich en route to relegation after Arsenal’s ruthless mauling

Ipswich Town is close to relegation after a 4-0 loss to Arsenal. The Gunners prevented Liverpool from celebrating an early title. They dominated against a struggling Ipswich team that played over an hour with ten men.

Leandro Trossard scored the first goal in the 14th minute. He tapped in after Bukayo Saka's cross was flicked on by Martin Ødegaard. Gabriel Martinelli quickly made it 2-0, scoring from a clever assist by Mikel Merino.

Ipswich's situation worsened when Leif Davis was sent off in the 32nd minute. He received a red card for a reckless tackle on Saka. Referee Chris Kavanagh showed Davis the card during this incident.

Arsenal continued to apply pressure throughout the match. Trossard scored his second goal in the 69th minute from a short corner. Substitute Ethan Nwaneri capped off the rout with a deflected strike two minutes before full-time.

Ipswich has now lost 20 of their 33 league games this season. They have suffered seven home defeats in 2025 alone. Their Premier League status is at risk as they prepare to face Newcastle next.

Meanwhile, Arsenal shifts focus back to Europe with a Champions League semi-final against PSG upcoming. Mikel Arteta tested a new midfield setup due to Thomas Partey's absence. Declan Rice anchored the midfield while Merino returned alongside Ødegaard.

Arteta's only concern was Saka needing ankle strapping after Davis' tackle. Despite this, Arsenal looks sharp heading into a crucial part of their season.
