EPL on Citi: Jack Hinshelwood scores winner as Brighton beat champions Liverpool

Jack Hinshelwood Celebrates Scoring Winner Against Liverpool

Premier League champions Liverpool let a lead slip twice. Brighton fought back to win the match. This victory boosts Brighton's hopes for European football next season.

Substitute Jack Hinshelwood scored the winning goal in the 85th minute. He headed in Matt O’Riley’s cross after a VAR check confirmed it was onside.

Liverpool led 1-0 and then 2-1 at halftime. However, Brighton recovered well and moved to eighth place in the table, three points above Brentford.

The match at Amex Stadium was entertaining. Liverpool took an early lead through Harvey Elliott in the ninth minute. Conor Bradley assisted him before Yasin Ayari equalized with a low strike.

Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool's advantage with a fortunate goal. He and Elliott executed a quick free-kick from the right side of the penalty area. Szoboszlai aimed for a cross but it flew over goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen into the net.

Alisson made a superb fingertip save against Danny Welbeck. However, he could not stop Kaoru Mitoma’s strike that made it 2-2 before Hinshelwood scored the winner.

Brighton will travel to Tottenham on Sunday for their final match of the season. The team finishing eighth may qualify for the UEFA Conference League.

For this to happen, Chelsea must beat Real Betis in the 2025 final on May 28. Chelsea also needs to finish seventh or sixth if Newcastle finishes seventh.
