Liverpool has signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. The transfer fee is 35 million euros (£29.5 million). Frimpong has signed a five-year deal with the club.
This announcement comes shortly after Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold will join Real in time for the Club World Cup. Liverpool activated Frimpong's release clause to secure his signing.
Frimpong, a versatile right-footer, is seen as Alexander-Arnold's replacement. He played a key role in Leverkusen's first Bundesliga title in 2023-24. He made 53 appearances as they finished second in the 2024-25 season.
At Liverpool, he will compete with Conor Bradley for the right-back position. Bradley recently signed a new four-year contract with the club.
Frimpong began his career at Manchester City before moving to Celtic in September 2019. He joined Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021.
He joins fellow Dutch players Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch at Liverpool. The club is also negotiating with Leverkusen to sign Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool has made an offer of around £109 million for Wirtz, including add-ons. Wirtz, who is 22 years old, is a key target for Liverpool. Discussions are reportedly in the final stages, and there is hope for an agreement soon.
