EPL on Citi: Newcastle beat Leicester City to move level with fourth placed Chelsea

Newcastle continued their strong push for the Champions League. They defeated Leicester, who are struggling to avoid relegation. This win moved Newcastle above Manchester City into fifth place in the Premier League. They are now level on points with Chelsea, who are in fourth, but have a game in hand.

Leicester made history for the wrong reasons. They became the first team in England's top four tiers to lose eight home league games in a row without scoring. Currently, they sit 15 points from safety with seven games left.

The scoring began quickly. Jacob Murphy netted his first goal within two minutes after Tino Livramento's great play on the left wing. Less than ten minutes later, Murphy scored again. Fabian Schar nearly scored from his own half but hit the crossbar instead. Murphy was quick to finish off the rebound.

Twenty-four minutes later, Newcastle extended their lead to 3-0. Joelinton cut inside Wout Faes and forced a save from Mads Hermansen. Harvey Barnes reacted quickly to score after that save as boos echoed around King Power Stadium.

As the match slowed down, Leicester's coach Ruud van Nistelrooy made a change. He brought on 15-year-old Jeremy Monga, making him one of the youngest players ever in the Premier League.

Leicester will try to avoid their tenth consecutive loss on Saturday against Brighton at Amex Stadium.
