EPL on Citi: Southampton manager Ivan Juric leaves after Saints’ relegation

Southampton has agreed with manager Ivan Juric to part ways. This follows their relegation from the Premier League on Sunday.

Juric took over from Russell Martin in December on an 18-month deal. He won only two of his 16 matches in charge.

On Sunday, Southampton lost 3-1 to Tottenham. This defeat confirmed their relegation, the earliest in Premier League history. They still have eight games left to play.

The loss against Spurs marked Southampton's 25th league defeat this season. The club stated, “Ivan came at a tough time and tried to improve the squad.”

They added, “Unfortunately, performances did not progress as hoped.” The club thanked Juric and his staff for their hard work during difficult times.

With relegation confirmed, Southampton aims to provide clarity for fans and players. Simon Rusk is expected to be the interim manager. Adam Lallana will assist him.

Juric's tenure lasted just 107 days at St Mary’s Stadium. He achieved only one Premier League victory—a 2-1 win at Ipswich.

His time as manager is now among the shortest in Premier League history. Southampton sits at the bottom of the standings with just 10 points.

They need two more points to avoid breaking Derby County's record-low tally of 11 points from 2007-08. Juric joined Southampton after being sacked by Roma in November.

He had previously managed teams in Italy like Torino and Genoa.
