Wolverhampton Wanderers improved their Premier League survival chances with a 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The match took place at Molineux and increased pressure on Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou made six changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt. This decision backfired just days before the important return leg in Germany.
Wolves scored quickly, taking the lead within two minutes. Rayan Ait-Nouri capitalized on a poor clearance from Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario. He drove home a shot from the edge of the box.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 38th minute. Marshall Munetsi’s header was pushed by Vicario onto teammate Djed Spence, resulting in an own goal.
Spurs pulled one back through Mathys Tel just before the hour mark. This followed a defensive mix-up involving Nelson Semedo. However, Wolves responded quickly to regain their two-goal advantage.
Ait-Nouri outmuscled Cristian Romero and assisted Jorgen Strand Larsen for an easy finish. Larsen scored in his fourth consecutive Premier League match.
Richarlison scored for Spurs in the 86th minute, giving them brief hope. But substitute Matheus Cunha sealed Wolves' victory in stoppage time after Lucas Bergvall lost possession in midfield.
This win moves Vitor Pereira’s Wolves to 16th place, now 14 points clear of relegation. Tottenham remains in 15th place and has suffered 17 defeats this season, making Postecoglou's future uncertain.
