EXCLUSIVE: Asante Kotoko open talks with Samuel Boadu for head coach role

Asante Kotoko SC is in talks with Berekum Chelsea coach Samuel Boadu. They are considering him for the head coach position.

This decision follows Kotoko's split with Prosper Narteh Ogum. The team faced disappointing results under his leadership. Karim Zito, a former national youth coach, is now the interim head coach.

Sources say Kotoko is negotiating with Boadu and his representatives. They hope to finalize the appointment before next season begins.

Boadu, 38, was dismissed by Hearts of Oak last September. His departure followed a poor start to the 2022/23 season and an early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. However, he has an impressive record at Hearts, winning the Ghana Premier League in 2021 and back-to-back FA Cups.

Before joining Hearts, Boadu coached Medeama SC. He quickly gained recognition as one of Ghana’s top young coaches.

If negotiations succeed, Boadu will officially take over at Kotoko for the 2025/26 season.

Interestingly, Boadu’s current team, Berekum Chelsea, will face Kotoko this Sunday. They will meet in the MTN FA Cup semi-final at TnA Stadium in Tarkwa. This match could preview future developments for both teams.
