Egypt’s Al Ahly announced on Saturday that they fired coach Marcel Koller. This decision came after the team was eliminated from the Champions League semifinal.
The 64-year-old faced criticism when Al Ahly lost to Mamelodi Sundowns. They drew 1-1 in Cairo, following a scoreless match in Pretoria. The loss was decided by the away goal rule.
As Koller left the pitch, fans threw bottles of water at him.
In a statement, the club said they are negotiating to end his contract. They aim for a mutual agreement that respects both parties.
Koller became head coach in 2022. He led Al Ahly to several trophies, including two Champions League titles.
