Techiman Eleven Wonders are back in the Ghana Premier League. They defeated Real Tamale United 2–1 in a Division One playoff match on Friday.
From the start, both teams showed urgency. However, Eleven Wonders were more clinical. Their early dominance paid off in the 12th minute. A team move from the left ended with a cross to Frank Awere. He finished calmly to give Wonders a 1–0 lead.
RTU entered the match with 18 wins this season. They struggled to impose themselves early on. Abdulai Abdul Rashid tried to inspire them in the 19th minute. He dribbled through traffic but shot wide. Meanwhile, Eleven Wonders looked composed and confident.
RTU's best chance came when Blabala Bamon dispossessed a defender inside the box. However, a decisive tackle denied him a clear shot at goal. After one minute of stoppage time, referee Selorm Yao Bless blew for halftime. Eleven Wonders held onto their narrow lead.
After halftime, RTU returned with renewed determination and intensity. But Eleven Wonders maintained their composure and control of the ball. Emmanuel Boateng stood out for Techiman with his dribbling skills.
The equalizer came in the 64th minute after sustained pressure from RTU. They were awarded a penalty, which Blabala Bamon converted to make it 1–1.
However, Eleven Wonders pressed forward urgently after that goal. They earned a penalty of their own shortly after RTU's equalizer. Left-back Farouk Ameyaw stepped up and scored to restore their lead at 2–1.
With three minutes of added time remaining, RTU pushed for another goal but could not score. At the final whistle, joy erupted among Eleven Wonders' players and fans. After three seasons away, they secured their return to Ghana’s top flight.
Unfortunately, there were some ugly scenes in the stands during the match. Tensions flared between fans of both clubs late in the game. Verbal exchanges escalated from the media section as police intervened.
The “Millennium Supporters Union of Ghana” passionately supported Eleven Wonders and irked some RTU fans. Whether due to frustration or provocations, this incident highlighted crowd control issues.
Designating separate ends for rival fans may help prevent future conflicts like this one. The atmosphere in Ghanaian football is strong but needs proper management to avoid becoming problematic.
This victory marks redemption for Eleven Wonders after narrowly missing promotion last season against Young Apostles at this same venue. This time there was no heartbreak—only history made.
Techiman becomes one of three Division One League sides promoted to the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, reclaiming their spot among elite teams.
