Emmanuel Adebayor, former Togolese international, explained why he chose to represent Togo over Ghana.
Although he had the chance to play for Ghana at the junior level, Adebayor struggled to communicate with teammates due to his inability to understand the local languages, Twi and Ga.
Feeling isolated, he left the Ghanaian camp and returned home. He later debuted for Togo in 2000, becoming the nation’s all-time top scorer.
Adebayor led Togo to their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2006 and won the African Footballer of the Year award that same year.
