Former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Kwabena Bekoe has some advice for Ghanaian strikers. He believes they should focus on positioning rather than just relying on speed.
In an interview with Gideon Okyere Anim (Gattuso) on Original TV, Bekoe shared his thoughts. He thinks positioning is often overlooked by modern strikers in the Ghana Premier League.
“Strikers in Ghana need to focus more on their positioning than just pace,” he said. “Being fast is good, but it doesn’t guarantee goals.”
Bekoe explained that if a striker doesn't know where to be, they will miss chances. The best goal scorers have a natural sense of where to be when the ball arrives.
He emphasized that understanding ball movement and reading the game is crucial. This skill can be more valuable than relying solely on speed.
“Pace can help, but positioning allows you to be in the right spot,” he noted. “The best strikers score because they are always positioned well.”
Bekoe's comments come during discussions about strikers in Ghanaian football. Speed has often been seen as the main attribute of top goal scorers.
However, Bekoe believes proper positioning and anticipation can lead to more consistent scoring, regardless of speed.
