Tottenham Hotspur faced frustration in North London. Eintracht Frankfurt's goalkeeper, Kaua Santos, had a sensational performance. He denied Spurs victory in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Frankfurt started strong with a goal in the 6th minute. Hugo Ekitike scored with a low strike, silencing the Tottenham crowd. The French forward showed his talent with that clinical finish.
Spurs quickly responded. Pedro Porro equalized with an impressive backheel flick. This moment lifted the crowd and set the tone for the second half.
After halftime, Tottenham pushed hard for a win. However, fate and Santos stood in their way. Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur hit the crossbar in quick succession.
Son Heung-min and James Maddison were also denied by Santos' acrobatic saves. The drama peaked in stoppage time when Micky van de Ven scored a header. Santos made a fingertip save to keep it level.
Tottenham sits 14th in the Premier League now. They are out of both domestic cups as well. The Europa League is their only chance for silverware this season.
To keep their dream alive, they must find a way past Kaua Santos in the return leg.
