Swedish coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren earned his first win with the Black Queens. They played a friendly match against Senegal.
Evelyn Badu scored the only goal of the game. Ghana defeated Senegal 1-0 on Saturday, April 5, in Dakar.
Badu scored from a cross by Princess Marfo. This marked the Black Queens' first victory under their new coach.
Princess Marfo made a great run down the left flank. She found Badu with her weaker foot for the goal.
Bjorkegren made two changes to the team that faced Morocco last time. Germany-based Josephine Bonsu started alongside Badu for her first match.
The Black Queens threatened early but couldn't break through Senegal's defense. In the 35th minute, Princess Marfo crossed to Badu, who headed in the opening goal.
After halftime, Ghana aimed to double their lead. However, Anasthesia Achiaa was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Cynthia Konlan made an impressive save, tipping a shot onto the crossbar. She quickly gathered the rebound to keep Senegal from scoring.
Despite late pressure from Senegal, they could not equalize. Ghana secured their first win since beating Namibia in December 2023 during WAFCON qualifiers.
The two teams will meet again on April 8 before the international window ends.
