GFA Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong has defended the expansion of the Black Stars' backroom staff ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Winfried Schäfer has been appointed technical advisor and GFA technical director.

Desmond Offei replaces Joseph Laumann as assistant coach, joining John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda under Otto Addo.

Kris Perquy becomes team psychologist, while Gregory De Grauwe serves as video analyst.

These changes follow Ghana's failure to qualify for AFCON 2025. Acheampong compared the setup to Al Ahly’s 35-member backroom team, urging support for the new staff.

Meanwhile, the Sports Minister has announced a review of the team. Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar in the March qualifiers.
