FIFA announced on March 26, 2025, that the winner of the 2026 World Cup will receive up to $125 million in prize money.
The total prize fund for the tournament is $1 billion. The event will take place from June 14 to July 13, 2026. FIFA has detailed how this money will be distributed among the 32 participating teams.
Each team will share $525 million just for participating. An additional $475 million will be allocated based on performance during the tournament. The winning team could earn as much as $125 million after seven matches.
European clubs will receive the largest share of the prize money. Each club's amount will range from $12.81 million to $38.19 million, depending on various criteria.
South American teams will each get $15.21 million in participation bonuses. Teams from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa will receive $9.55 million each. Auckland City, representing Oceania, will take home $3.58 million.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that this distribution model offers the biggest prize money ever for a competition with both group stages and knockout phases.
He also mentioned an unprecedented solidarity program aimed at redistributing an extra $250 million to football worldwide. Infantino emphasized that all proceeds from the event would benefit club football globally.
