Faith Ladies and Police Ladies make history in thrilling 2024/25 Ghana Women’s Football Season finale

The 2024/2025 season of Ghanaian women’s football showcased determination and skill. New champions emerged in two major competitions. Faith Ladies won the Women’s FA Cup, while Police Ladies triumphed in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League. Both finals took place on May 18, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, despite heavy rain.

Faith Ladies claimed the Women’s FA Cup after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Jonina Ladies. The match was intense, with both teams showing great tactical discipline. The first half ended without any goals. The second half also remained goalless, leading to extra time.

In extra time, Jonina Ladies’ Joyce Atimbila scored in the 97th minute. However, Faith Ladies’ Erica Obeng Apreku equalized just one minute later. Apreku then scored again in the 112th minute, putting Faith Ladies ahead 2-1. Jonina Ladies fought hard for an equalizer but could not succeed.

This FA Cup win is a significant milestone for Faith Ladies. It marks their third final appearance in five years and their first title since 2021.

Later that day, Police Ladies celebrated their league victory against Ampem Darkoa Ladies. Jane Ayieyam opened the scoring in the 27th minute. This goal set the tone for the match as they aimed to defend their title from previous seasons. Victoria Teye Williams sealed the win with a goal in the 89th minute, making it 2-0.

This victory is Police Ladies' first title in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League. It also secures them a spot in next season's CAF Women’s Champions League.

The 2024/2025 season will be remembered for its changing dynamics in Ghanaian women’s football. These developments are likely to inspire younger players and elevate future competitions.
