American runner Grant Fisher set a new world indoor record in the 5,000m, clocking 12:44.09 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

The 27-year-old shattered the previous record of 12:49.60 set by Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele in 2004.

Fisher finished well ahead of France’s Jimmy Gressier, who set a new European indoor record at 12:54.92. This marks Fisher’s second world record in six days, following his 3,000m record at the Millrose Games in New York.

His latest achievement comes just a day after Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen set new records in the mile and 1500m at a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event in France.

Fisher, a double Olympic bronze medalist, continues to make history in long-distance running.
