Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is preparing to run for a fifth consecutive term, despite his advancing age.
A board meeting on January 9 will announce elections, where Perez is expected to run unopposed, as in the past four elections since he replaced Ramon Calderon in 2009.
Perez, who will be 82 by the end of his potential sixth term, faces little competition due to restrictive club statutes introduced in 2012.
These rules require candidates to have been members for 20 years, be Spanish, and guarantee 15% of the club’s budget (€156 million) personally, making it difficult for challengers to emerge.
