Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has shared insights into his decision to appoint Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac as Black Stars head coach in 2008.
Nyantakyi revealed that Rajevac’s determination and adaptability convinced him. Rajevac had emphasized his resilience, citing experiences like traveling long distances with players during his time at Vojvodina.
Rajevac led the Black Stars to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals, narrowly missing the semi-finals after losing to Uruguay on penalties. Nyantakyi highlighted Rajevac’s understanding of African football and culture, which contributed to his success.
Reflecting on the current state of the Black Stars, Nyantakyi noted the team’s struggles, citing frequent coaching changes with little improvement. Rajevac left Ghana after the World Cup, moving to Saudi club Al-Ahli.
