Ghana Boxing Federation, Dauda Fuseini
Dauda Fuseini is the Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF). He has made an urgent appeal for financial support. This request is directed to the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. The national boxing team needs funds as they prepare for upcoming international events.
During an official meeting, Fuseini highlighted Ghana’s young boxers' potential. He urged authorities to provide resources for them to compete globally. "We have the boys. We have the talent," he said. "All we need now is support."
Fuseini mentioned that the federation is preparing for two major tournaments in 2026. These are the Commonwealth Games in Scotland and the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. He believes these events are crucial for Ghana's boxing development.
Before these tournaments, there is a key event this year: the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. This championship is a recognized ranking event that can boost Ghana's international standing.
"This year, our calendar includes the World Championship in Liverpool," Fuseini stated. It will help assess our athletes’ readiness for future competitions like the Commonwealth Games.
He emphasized that participation in Liverpool is vital for earning international points needed for future tournaments, including the Olympics. "We are pleading with NSA and the Ministry of Sports to support us," he added.
The Liverpool Championship will help build momentum and rankings for our athletes as they prepare for 2026.
This appeal comes as Ghanaian boxing thrives at youth levels. Recent successes at the African Youth Championship show promise in this sport. However, consistent financial backing remains essential to achieve sustained global success.
