The Ghana Police Service and the GFA are set to establish a Sports Policing Unit to improve security at football matches.
This follows the recent violence at a Ghana Premier League game between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, which led to the tragic death of Yaw Frimpong.
During a meeting with club representatives, IGP Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare outlined measures to prevent similar incidents.
The new unit will engage supporter groups, deploy trained security personnel, and enhance intelligence operations.
Additionally, sports policing will be incorporated into police training courses to better equip officers for matchday security.
The GFA will meet Premier League clubs on February 6 to discuss these measures further as part of broader efforts to protect Ghanaian football.
