GFA Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong has stated that the association does not need external approval for national team appointments.

His comments follow recent changes to the Black Stars' technical team after their failure to qualify for AFCON 2025.

Winfried Schäfer has been appointed as the Black Stars' technical advisor and GFA technical director, while Desmond Offei replaces Joseph Laumann as assistant coach. Offei joins John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda under head coach Otto Addo.

Kris Perquy will serve as a psychologist, and Gregory De Grauwe as a video analyst.

Acheampong defended the GFA’s autonomy in decision-making, despite criticism. However, Sports Minister Kofi Adams has hinted that the new technical setup will undergo a review.
