The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has shared its condolences. They mourn the loss of Ghana legend Wilberforce Mfum.
Mfum passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025. He was a former player for Swedru All Blacks, Asante Kotoko, and the Black Stars. The GFA expressed shock at his passing on their website.
Mfum was known as "the Bulldozer" for his strength and finishing skills. He was a prominent figure in Ghana football and will be remembered fondly.
He was part of the 1963 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team. Mfum scored Ghana's first goal in that tournament and netted twice in the final. This helped Ghana secure its first continental title.
He had an impressive record, scoring 20 goals in 26 appearances for Ghana. Mfum also shone at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Before moving abroad, he excelled with Swedru All Blacks and Asante Kotoko. He later played for teams like Baltimore Bays and New York Cosmos in the USA.
Mfum leaves behind a significant legacy in Ghana football history. The GFA extends its thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time.
Wilberforce Mfum passed away at the age of 88. May his soul rest in peace.
