GFA halts Ghana Premier League following fan death in Nsoatre

Ghana Football Association Ghana Football Association

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended all Ghana Premier League matches following a violent incident in Nsoatre that resulted in the death of an Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong, known as Pooley.

The altercation occurred during Kotoko’s clash with Nsoatreman on matchday 19.

In response, the GFA has postponed matchday 20 fixtures to engage stakeholders and address security concerns.

An eyewitness alleged that former Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah, owner of Nsoatreman FC, played a role in escalating tensions. Kotoko’s Technical Director, Kwasi Appiah, was reportedly advised against intervening due to safety fears.

The chaos ultimately led to tragedy, prompting urgent calls for stricter measures to prevent violence in Ghanaian football.
