The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has responded to recent violence. This occurred during a Ghana Premier League match between Basake Holy Stars and Nations FC.
The match took place on Sunday at the Ampain Arena. It turned chaotic when Nations FC walked off the pitch. They protested a second penalty awarded against them while trailing 1-0. Earlier, they had already conceded a first-half penalty. This led to a large-scale melee and the abandonment of the game.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the GFA acknowledged these disturbing incidents. They confirmed that an investigation is now underway.
“The Association has commenced a thorough investigation into the reported incidents,” part of the statement read.
The GFA also reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and fairness in competitions. They assured all stakeholders that they will safeguard the integrity of the game.
“The GFA wishes to assure all stakeholders...that it remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of the game,” they stated.
They promised to address all issues arising from this matter quickly and decisively. The statement concluded with a call for cooperation from everyone involved.
As for Nations FC, without the result of the abandoned game, they remain joint second in the league with 60 points, tied with Bibiani GoldStars.
