GPL 2024/25: Samartex sink Accra Lions into relegation zone

Defending champions Samartex defeated Accra Lions 2-1 on Sunday, April 6, 2025. The match took place at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. This loss worsens Accra Lions' chances of survival.

Emmanuel Mamah scored for Samartex just one minute into the game. He took advantage of a mistake by the visitors.

Samartex dominated the first half. They created many shooting and goal-scoring opportunities.

In the 19th minute, Yao Sokpoli tried to equalize for Accra Lions. He made a bold strike from outside the box but missed. Despite their pressure, Samartex's defense remained strong.

In the 38th minute, Akwesi Sarpong scored for Samartex. The Lions' defense was caught off guard, allowing him to shoot into the net.

After halftime, Accra Lions made substitutions to change their strategy. However, these changes had little effect on the game.

The visitors managed to score one goal but it wasn’t enough. Samartex held on to win and secured all three points.

With this victory, Samartex moved up to 9th place in the league with 35 points. Meanwhile, Accra Lions fell into the relegation zone with only 23 points.
